Dolores Public Library Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is seeking a new member
We invite you to help shape the future of the Dolores Library District. This is a great opportunity to join a vital organization interested in serving the greater Dolores community. The Board needs members who value the mission of the library, can communicate and advocate for the library, embrace planning for the future, can provide passion, judgment, courage, commitment, integrity and open mindedness, and represent the community with pride.
The Board of Trustees is the governing body of our Dolores Library District. Its function is to determine and evaluate policy, hire and evaluate the Executive Director, and ensure the physical, operational, and financial wellbeing of the Dolores Public Library currently and into the future. In addition, and just as significantly, it must assess and respond to the changing needs of the community. It is an exciting time, as libraries are now providing new and innovative programs for their communities.
In addition to believing strongly in the role the library plays as a member of the greater Dolores community; we are also seeking a trustee with one or more of the following types of experience:
• Parent of child in the Dolores School System
• Teacher or staff in the Dolores School System
• Business owner or employee in the greater Dolores community
• Past experience working for or serving on the board of a non-profit organization
• HR and/or financial training and experience – professionally or as a volunteer
• Knowledge of the needs of the greater Dolores community
The Board meets at 6:00 pm on the second Tuesday of each month, along with the Executive Director. Meetings typically last two hours. Most trustees spend about four hours a month on trustee-related responsibilities.
A trustee must be a resident in the Dolores Library District, which has the same area as the Dolores School District (if you are not familiar with the district boundaries, please call the library). Terms are three years and start at the annual meeting, which is in January of each year. If you would like to learn more about what’s involved with serving as a trustee, ask Sean Gantt the library district’s Executive Director, to have the Board President call you.
A letter addressed to the Board of Trustees expressing interest and including some background information may be dropped off at the library or sent to the Executive Director. After reviewing, you will be asked to observe a Board of Trustees meeting, where you may ask questions of the trustees. Once approved by the Board, your appointment must also receive the pro forma approval of the Dolores Town Board and the Dolores School Board.
